Description
Dark Patchouli Essential Oil (Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth.)
Steam distilled from carefully matured leaves of Pogostemon cablin, Dark Patchouli Essential Oil offers the rich, full-bodied aroma that has made patchouli one of the world's most iconic perfume ingredients. Time allows the oil to mellow and deepen, producing a smoother, darker fragrance with exceptional richness and complexity.
Its aroma opens with deep earthy woods before revealing warm cocoa, dried herbs and subtle spice. As it develops, soft balsamic sweetness and gentle smoky nuances emerge, creating an elegant foundation that anchors lighter florals, citrus and resins with remarkable longevity.

History
Pogostemon cablin is native to Southeast Asia, where its aromatic leaves have been valued for centuries. As trade expanded during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, patchouli became closely associated with the luxurious textiles of India and Indonesia. Merchants packed fine silks and cashmere with dried patchouli leaves to protect them during long sea voyages, leaving fabrics infused with its unmistakable earthy fragrance.
European perfumers soon recognised patchouli's remarkable ability to add depth and longevity to fragrance compositions. Throughout the twentieth century it became a defining ingredient in oriental, woody and chypre perfumes, valued not only for its rich aroma but also for its exceptional fixative properties.
Today, Dark Patchouli Essential Oil remains one of the foundations of natural perfumery. Its mature, earthy richness, subtle sweetness and extraordinary lasting power continue to make it an indispensable base note for artisan perfumers creating elegant botanical fragrances.
