In traditional Chinese culture, gardenia was appreciated alongside jasmine and osmanthus as one of the country's most treasured fragrant flowers. Because fresh gardenia flowers yield very little aromatic material through conventional distillation, authentic natural gardenia extracts have always been exceptionally rare.
